4-H Horticulture Competition

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo invited Harris County 4-H clubs to participate in the first-ever 4-H Horticulture Competition in 2009. Participating 4-H clubs were on-hand in Reliant Park to create their competition entry before the Show began. Each club designed the landscaping and chose the plant materials for a 3 ½' tall x 6' wide x 6' deep wood planter. The planters were judged on the interpretation of themes, design concept and execution, and condition, quality, and selection of plant material and props. These planters also showed evidence of the 4-H spirit.
