2005 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ — A Record-Setting Year

The 2005 Show turned out to be a record-setting year. Check out the highlights from the 2005 Show.

Lil’ Rustlers. Big Heart.

His hands flying in the air, Eric gripped the reins on the rowdy bronc and held on tightly. The whistle sounded, and a Texas-sized smile adorned his face as this cowboy realized he rode the bucking horse for all eight seconds. The crowd roared in applause as the heart of one little rodeo champion was shining bright enough to light up the colossal Reliant Stadium.

Salute to the Wild West

On Dec. 6, 2004, P. Michael Wells, president and chief executive officer of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™, and John O. Smith, Show chairman of the board, accepted the Charles Goodnight Award on behalf of the Show.

Outgoing Chairman of the Board

The future looks bright for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™, thanks in part to the sound leadership of John O. Smith, outgoing chairman of the board. During his three-year tenure, Smith ushered in the inaugural year in Reliant Stadium and Reliant Center, the beginning of a new era in a new home. His term has been filled with many challenges leading to even more successes. Drawing on his extensive experience from years of service to the Show, as well as his executive business experience, Smith met the opportunity head on with confidence, dedication and determination to get the job done.
